# Make your first request

Your first search takes a few minutes, and test keys are free.

1. Sign in to the developer console at https://play.fellowverse.app/developers with your email, and name your account. It starts with test keys.
2. Under **Keys**, make a test key. Copy it now: it is shown once.
3. Search:

   ```
   export KEY=fv_test_...
   curl https://play.fellowverse.app/v1/search \
     -H "Authorization: Bearer $KEY" -H 'content-type: application/json' \
     -d '{"query": "rest for the weary", "limit": 3}'
   ```

4. Check what you used, here or under **Use** in the console:

   ```
   curl https://play.fellowverse.app/v1/usage -H "Authorization: Bearer $KEY"
   ```
